Anti--C.A.A protesters disrupt Kerala Governor’s speech at Indian History Congress

Several delegates at the gathering raised slogans and held placards towards Governor Arif for backing the new citizenship law. The Governor had noted that the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) fulfilled a promise made through Gandhi and Nehru to the non-Muslims who were left in Pakistan after partition.

protesters on Saturday.

Several delegates sitting in the the front rows held placards and raised slogans in opposition to the Governor for backing the new citizenship law.
You have each and every proper to protest. But you cannot shout me down”, Khan stated over and over as some of the delegates protested inner the auditorium.

He also said, “when you shut the door for debate and discussion, you are advertising violence


Some delegates shouted “Kerala Governor disgrace shame” as Khan concluded his speech. They were removed from the venue by means of the police.

Expressing situation over the incident, Indian History Congress Secretary said, “some the delegates had been peacefully standing and holding placards. They were roughed up with the aid of police

Kerala Governor Arif Mohammed Khan speech at the inaugural ceremony of the eightieth Indian History Congress in Kannur University was once disrupted by using anti-CAA protesters on Saturday.

Several delegates sitting in the the front rows held placards and raised slogans in opposition to the Governor for backing the new citizenship law.


“You have each proper to protest. But you can't shout me down”, Khan said repeatedly as some of the delegates protested inner the auditorium.

He also said, “when you shut the door for debate and discussion, you are promotion violence.”


Some delegates shouted “Kerala Governor disgrace shame” as Khan concluded his speech. They were eliminated from the venue by the police.

Expressing difficulty over the incident, Indian History Congress Secretary said, “some the delegates have been peacefully standing and retaining placards. They have been roughed up by means of police”.


A lady delegate, who was once taken away in a police jeep alleged the personnel had been pushing them. This is not right, she said.

The Governor had mentioned that the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) fulfilled a promise made via Gandhi and Nehru to the non-Muslims who had been left in Pakistan after partition.

Earlier this week, the Kerala Congress rescinded Arif’s invitation to a commemoration event in the memory of former Chief Minister K Karunakaran for his views on the new Act.
